The Museum of Jersey City History’s third major exhibition, a celebration of Hudson County Community College’s 50th anniversary, will open Friday afternoon.

The exhibit will examine the college’s historical role in providing affordable education to Hudson County residents and transforming Journal Square “into a viable learning neighborhood” over the past half-century, according to a museum press release. It will feature documents including architectural plans, vintage photographs, and student newsletters and yearbooks from across the decades.

The exhibit will open with a free public reception from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Friday. The reception will feature remarks from Hudson County Community College President Christopher Reber and Vice President of External Affairs Nicholas Chiaravalloti, who will speak at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

Following the reception, the exhibit will be open during the museum’s regular hours, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. The museum will also be open 1-5 p.m. on Nov. 13, 18 and 25, and Dec. 5, 9, and 12. The Museum of Jersey City History is housed in the historic Van Wagenen House, also known as Apple Tree House, located at 298 Academy St.
