JCAST- October 2024

JCAST

JCAST at MJCH featured interactive art installations by local artists in the historic Apple Tree House. Over four days, gallery owners, artists, and community members of all ages engaged with the artwork, watched  video presentations, and connected with each other. We were pleased to have Governor McGreevy and a representative from the Pompidou Museum join us and interact with the exhibits. A fun time was had by all!

PS 17 visits MJCH - April 20, 2022

We had a nice event at the museum on Thursday, April 20. History students from PS 17, who are entered in a NJ history contest and who are doing a project on Bergen Square, came by the house for a lecture, tour, and lunch. They received copies of Bergen Square 360 and won Bergen Square Day 2022 t-shirts in a quiz.

The inaugural History Club members are:

Jomana Abo Shoueeb-Grade 7

 Liraine Torres-Grade 7

Xariyah Torres- Grade 7

Aya Zouhri- Grade 7 ( not pictured)

Kate Trillo- Grade 8 ( not pictured)

Henry Miranda- Grade 8

Deborah Bartley-Carter- Grade 6- 8, ELA Middle School Teacher

Christopher Bolsius- Grade 2, Special Education Teacher

Jomana, Lorraine, Xariyah, Henry, and Kate won the regional competition in the junior group exhibit division for National History Day.   Their project on the Dutch History of Bergen Square was a team effort that resulted in a 25-page research paper and a presentation that captivated the judges. They competed against public, private, and charter schools in Hudson, Monmouth, and Ocean counties, and won a qualifying spot. The team will be moving on to the state level of the competition and competing against ALL the counties in the state of New Jersey.  If they win, they will be moving on to the National level competition in Maryland this summer. Wish them luck!
